TOEFL Practice

Hi everyone,

We will have our TOEFL exam on Saturday, October 19th. We have been studying for the TOEFL the entire semester with the timed reading, listening and grammar activities as well as the TOEFL exams. We have already looked at most of these power points, but I would like you to re-familiarize yourself with them. You will also be getting a TOEFL test prep booklet from me that I hope you will study over the break. On Monday, we will be in lab 1 to finish our final drafts of our papers (which you must attend to get points for your final draft essay), but we will also do TOEFL prep. On Wednesday the 16th, we will complete our TOEFL prep. Please do not miss this class.

Homework Schedule and Other Things

Hi guys,

If you don't already have the homework schedule from the first blog post, here it is again.  Your homework for next week is to complete pages 128 and 129.

I'm posting the videos we watched in class today in case you missed the first one, or if you are interested in watching the second one again.

Here is a BBC News article about what fracking is and environmental concerns.

Our Essay

Hi everyone,

Please check your blackboard mail. If I did not approve your sources, you must find new sources and show them to me today before you start to write.

Today you should be finished with your outline and you will write you essay. Please use your outline to guide you. Please review p. 117 for the guidelines of your essay.

Also, please look at this PDF file about hooks in your introductory paragraph if you have any questions about how to write a good hook. You don't have to complete it, but I thought it could help you.

These two things might help you:

Purdue's site describes the process of writing a persuasive paragraph.

You will send me your essay today through Blackboard as an attachment .doc file. I will correct your essay and give it back to you and you will rewrite your essay in about 2 weeks.

Thanks!
